Paul George returns to lead Clippers to 25-point comeback win over Jazz

Image
Paul George   looked like himself again. His team does as well. Forty-three games and 97 days since he began resting a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right, shooting elbow, the All-Star wing needed only two minutes to flash his elite defensive form, one quarter to regain his offensive rhythm and one game to enliven a dragging  Clippers  team and end their five-game losing streak. All of it looked familiar amid a 121-115 victory — George using his in-and-out dribble to freeze a defender in the paint, comfortably making step-back jump shots and ending Utah possessions with his quick hands. It ended with what has become an utterly familiar scene as well, as the Clippers completed their fourth comeback when trailing by at least 24 points this season — the most by a team in the last 25 seasons — behind George’s 34 points, six assists, two rebounds and four steals to help the Clippers (37-39) stay composed after they trailed by 25 in the third quarter. With the Clippers all but locked

College baseball rankings: Tennessee reaches the rocky top

Tennessee took over No. 1 in the D1Baseball Top 25 for the first time in the eight-year history of the rankings. The Volunteers jumped from No. 5 after sweeping a road series at then-No. 1 Ole Miss, outscoring the Rebels 26-7. The Volunteers improved to 23-1 on the season. Arkansas climbed one spot to No. 2 after winning two of three on the road at Missouri. Oregon State moved up three places to No. 3 on the heels of a road series win at California, and Virginia vaulted six spots to No. 4 after taking two of three at Wake Forest. Florida State moved up two places to round out the top five after winning its sixth straight weekend series, taking two of three vs. Duke. There was significant upheaval throughout the rankings, as 11 ranked teams lost their weekends. Oklahoma State ran its winning streak to 11 and climbed three spots to No. 6. Texas Tech made the week’s biggest jump, up nine places to No. 7 after winning a home series against Texas, which fell six spots to No. 8. Vanderbilt

Frankie Collins Saves the Day to Put Michigan Back on the Upswing—for Now

The Wolverines’ turbulent season has reached the round of 32 thanks to an unlikely hero sparking a critical comeback. The Michigan roller coaster is getting at least one more ride. From the top five of the AP poll to the worst win-loss record of any men’s NCAA tournament team, navigating a COVID-19 pause and a lengthy suspension of its head coach in between, “tumultuous” would be a kind word to describe the types of ups and downs this team has experienced in 2021–22. And for the first 15 minutes of this first-round matchup with Colorado State, some Wolverine fans might have been ready to get off the ride for good. Michigan was sloppy and disoriented without point guard DeVante’ Jones, who didn’t travel from Ann Arbor after suffering a concussion in practice earlier in the week. Colorado State was well prepared for Hunter Dickinson’s post catches and was exploiting the 7-footer in space on the defensive end. The Wolverines looked lost. Through 15 minutes, Michigan trailed by 15 and had

Von Miller signing massive contract with Bills

Former Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller is signing a six-year, $120 million contract with the Buffalo Bills, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. That’s a huge average of $20 million per season. The six-year deal includes $51.5 million guaranteed, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday evening. Miller (6-3, 250 pounds) was selected by the Broncos with the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft after a standout career at Texas A&M. He went on to spend nine and a half years with the Broncos before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams mid-way through the 2021 season. Miller totaled 225 quarterback hits, 110.5 sacks and 26 forced fumbles in 142 games in Denver. He recorded eight quarterback hits and five sacks in eight regular season games with the Rams last season. In the playoffs, Miller totaled four more sacks for L.A. in 2021. After earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in his first season, Miller went on to earn eight Pro Bowl nods and has won a pa
